An Urgent Plea from the Philippines

To the brave comrades of Turtle Island:

Last year, we asked antifascists in the U.S. to act for us in commemorating our slain sister Jennifer Laude, killed by an American soldier. While there was some commemoration and remembrance of Jennifer Laude, this was done after her death anniversary on October 11 because the initial open letter calling for the commemoration initially fell on deaf ears. Earlier, Filipino/a/x autonomists, anarchists, and abolitionists in the so-called Philippines and its diasporas wrote an open letter asking US anti-fascists to resist the return of the murderer of Jennifer Laude to the United States, but his return was not resisted, and we received no report of any action protesting his return.

Queer Autonomy: Ultraviole(n)t Orange

Entering scenes as a young anarchist in the mid-2010s, the legacy of Bash Back! and its influence on queer insurrectionary & criminal activity deeply influenced my anarchism and my queerness. As such, I was excited about the re-emergence of the convergence and the chance to tap into a tendency and a network that has profoundly influenced me.

I left Bash Back! 23 feeling ecstatic, connected, inspired, and energized; I also left feeling frustrated, annoyed, & exhausted.

The Spook and the Spectre: When Black Anarchism Knocks at The Master’s Door

We’re here to speak on the culture of black anarchism being discussed in some previous report backs. Very insightful and meaningful report backs but measuring the locality of Black anarchism seems to be a feat that has been left up to the petty bourgeois and/or biracial anarchists who either belong to and/or have proximity to the very same white sub-cultural anarchic spaces they critique and therefore have a very limited understanding concerning historical consciousness and relevancy of the Black Radical Tradition. They’re deeply entrenched in and intimate with the culture that seeps from the white anarchist scene. And they’re correct; the “baggage of the dominant social order is heavy,” but some black anarchists carry the baggage in a very fashionable way because of the proximity to power and access it provides them or they just genuinely love fucking on white people. Shid. Do you; but stop defining the black anarchist scene through the lens of your own experience and/or sympathy for whiteness and/or white anarchists.

Week One: a note from the BB!news editorial group

Inspired by the Bash Back! News of yesteryear (and by the current counter-information eco-system) we launched bbnews.noblogs.org a week ago. In that time, we’ve been delighted to receive and transmit several submissions, including some direct responses to previous posts. We’re excited to see a rejuvenation of long-form dialogue between various queer constellations of the anarchist galaxy.

We also received some texts we have not published, namely a pair of death threats related to masking and a handful of statements (some pretty incriminating to specific individuals) about the dread-cutting incident at the convergence earlier this month.

As stated, this website is not the mouthpiece of any organization, and the editorial group makes self-interested decisions about what to publish. This means not posting statements calling for the mass murder of our friends, spreading deliberate misinformation, appealing to some non-existent authority, legally jeopardizing individuals, or (worst of all) boring us.

More importantly, self-interested publishing means putting out things we’re excited to transmit to the world. Those of us involved in this project also live full lives, rich with other endeavors to pour our energy into. We don’t publish out of obligation or demand. We’ll continue to accept submissions that advance the conversations we’re interested in or, at the very least, entertain us.

And so, dear readers, some things we’d be excited to see:

Bash Back 2023 was more or less what I expected it to be, a healthy amount of faggotry in-between questionable politics and ultra-violence. Shout out to the wrestling! What was also expected was the all-too-familiar experience of being a black anarchist in the predominately white anarchist subculture. This is why “Black anarchist reflections” felt like the most refreshing thing that’s come out the bb! for me. I feel that it is worth adding a few more things to what those folks said.

Black Anarchist Reflections, From Bash Back! and Beyond

We are writing this document as black anarchist attendees of Bash Back! who are trying to grapple with some of the broader issues/organizational questions within the black anarchist milieu and how those convos came up during the weekend for us and our homies. While we come from a variety of political backgrounds, we share a committed desire to insurrection and revolt for black autonomy. It was great to meet one another and kick it over the weekend. We got to hash out the answers to some questions. There was a lot of necessary conflict at Bash Back!. While reportbacks are fun, though often misleading, our aim in this document is to talk in a broader, abstract way about some of the questions and dynamics that occurred for black participants.

Gleefully Cutting My Teeth on Others And In Raucous Filthy Love

I want to begin by saying that I know I am the tendency that you speak of, the queer tendency toward immolation and self-annihilation, that I want to blow up the artificial sun of this world, to go off the rails, to end the nightmare.

It hurts and is gut-wrenching to know that I am my mother’s child.

I can’t give a proper followup to the beautiful and eloquent love-letter you wrote.

I am the exact type of tendency where I can’t be caged by the standard social control mechanisms, that factional bitterness is where I feel at home only to destroy the factions until we are all once again individuals, that I want to bring the war home (I of course gleefully fight in the war on terror), that I love the energetics of forward motion “the speed and violence of action”, that I want to BLOW UP THE SUN, and I am sometimes otherworldly possessed by the necromancy I use for strength, our dead, the tortured souls, the “past” locked away and attempted to be solidified as “history”, that I foolishly play with arcane magic as I tight-walk the razor-wire.

a minor contribution to a humble conversation

A recent text, “a humble conversation on why you shouldn’t name your group” has reprised an older conversation among anarchists set off by a “letter to the anarchist galaxy.” Both outline the strategic risks and detriments posed by the decision to claim attacks as named formations. Contributing to this conversation, and in partial response to those demanding reportbacks from the Bash Back! Convergence, it makes sense to take a moment to name one proposal which was *not* put forward last week: the return of Bash Back! as a named organization. A number of pieces in Queer Ultraviolence lay out the limits hit by BB! in that form, and are worth revisiting for those curious. Those limits can only be harder in the current cybernetic-identitarian hell.

Bash Back! was nothing short of the joyfully militant & orgiastically unhinged gathering it advertised itself to be– queer AF, silly, sexy & sketchy antics ensued almost every day/nite. A lot of us felt held in an urban space where there was room to be all kinds of things & ways, & not much was taboo.
